How To Treat Myopia With Corrective Lens

What Is Myopia?

Myopia, also termed as short-sightedness is a medical condition where a person has a clear vision of the close object but has a blurry vision of distant objects. This is caused when the light entering our eyes is not properly focused on the retina but is focused in front of the retina. Being too far forward in the eyes, the distant objects appear to be blurred.

Myopia is the most common type of eye impairment affecting people under the age of 40 years. In the recent times, the prevalence of this impairment is growing at an alarming rate. According to global research conducted in the year 2000, approximately 25% of the world's population is suffering from this problem and the numbers are expected to increase to about 50% by the year 2050. Myopia treatment lens is more effective than the conventional glasses and are immensely helpful in treating the issue in an effective manner.

Symptoms Of Myopia
It will be very difficult for you to clearly read road signs and see distant objects if you are nearsighted. But in the case of seeing objects that are close to the eye, such as reading books and using computers, you will face no problems at all.
Squinting of eyes, pain in eyes and constant headache are some of the symptoms that will tell you that you are suffering from myopia. You will not be able to drive for long durations due to the feeling of fatigue. Also, the issue will affect your capabilities to perform in outdoor sports.

Causes Of Myopia
As we have discussed, myopia is a condition where the capability of the eye to focus light on the retina is lost. This occurs when the size of the eyeball is elongated and the eyeball becomes too long. This causes the shift of the focal point of the light rays towards the front of the retina rather than being directly on the surface of the retina.
The lens which is involved in the process of focusing the light in our eyes is called cornea. In case of myopia, this lens gains extra curvature than normal. This extra curvature again leads to the shift of focal point. In some cases, the nearsightedness is caused by the combination of these two factors. In such cases the eyeball is elongated as well as the curvature of the lens is intensified.

Cure: Myopia Treatment Lens
The treatment of myopia depends upon the degree of damage that is done to the eye. If the damage is minimal and is in its starting stages, it can be treated by putting some ophthalmic eye solutions in the eye at regular intervals. But it the damage is not cured then you may have to wear glasses fitted with myopia treatment lens.

You will have to wear glasses all the time or you may need the myopia treatment lens only when you are driving or watching a movie. You are suggested to wear the myopia treatment lens all day long to prevent further stress on the eyes, which can cause further damage.

The myopia treatment lens is concave in shape which in the layman’s language means that they are thicker on the edges and thinner at the center. Myopia treatment lens is called a minus power lens, as they reduce the focusing power of the cornea. By doing this, the focus of light is moved back to the desired position, which is on the surface of retina.
