The Basic Tests to Address:
Searching the internet will let you come across some of the basic eyes tests you might undergo while your trip to the ophthalmologist’s office. Make sure to have a clear understanding of what these tests are and why those are performed by experts.
- The first one is the visual acuity test: This is the most generic test you have to go through, where the doctor will ask you to read a series of letters with one eye at a time. The letters are positioned in one specific distance and the expert will respond to the result depending on the vision level of each eye.
- A refraction test is the next one: This eye test is used for determining the prescription of your eyeglass. Here, you need to gaze through the phoropter and look at the eye chart opposite the wall during this form of vision test.
- Retinoscopy is quite common: Here, the ophthalmologist is likely to use the phoropter to cover up retinoscopy. It will help the optometrist to work on the optimal lenses and approximate it. As you gaze through the machine, the doctor flips various lenses in front of you. You are asked to focus on one prominent object. Later, the expert will shine a bright light into the eyes and watch how that might affect the eyes with multiple lenses.
Going for the Color Blindness Test:
It is also called a screening eyes test, designed to check the color vision of your eyes. This form of examination takes place early in a comprehensive eye exam for ruling out color blindness in any individual. Other than detecting hereditary color vision based deficiencies, these tests can also alert the optometrist of any possible eye issues, which might affect color vision in the near future.
What About Cover Test:
There are so many types of eyes test that doctors usually follow to understand what is bothering the patient. However, among the lot, the cover test is the most common and simple one.
- At this point, the eye doctor will actually ask you to mainly focus on smaller objects across the room. Later, he will cover each eye at an alternative stage while you keep staring at that object. Later, the test gets repeated with you checking out a nearer object.
- These tests will help the doctor to assess whether the uncovered eye needs to be moved for picking up a fixation target. It will actually indicate strabismus or even subtle kind of binocular vision issue, causing eye strain.
